Red Jeans – And FINALLY, a Haircut!

I’m going to admit something very embarrassing. Before today, I hadn’t cut my hair for almost an entire year.  I cut it about a week before my wedding and our 1st anniversary is in 2 weeks.  Worse yet, I had it cut all one length – not a good look for my sometimes curly hair.  Since, I’d saved on an entire year’s worth of no haircuts, I decided to splurge on this last one.  After some research I decided I’d go to the owner of the Girl Loves Boy Salon in Summit, NJ – Shahe Kasparian.  And I’ve gotta say, it was a truly great experience.  First, he took a look at my hair, and my face and explained to me why my hair shouldn’t be as long as it was.  Apparently, for my face shape, my height and my hair type, my hair shouldn’t be longer than a face length past my face… does that make sense? Maybe this will help:

Also, he said I should never cut my hair one length again — that I need some dimension and an opportunity to create texture.  I told him that I once got bangs and he cringed – he said definitely not for my face shape and because of the “wave” i have in my hairline — better known as my cowlick. All in all it was a very enlightening session.  I place a high value on experts who can share with me some of the science behind what they do and Shahe did not disappoint! And I love my new haircut!

Note: the lighting in these makes my hair look brown but it's still black as ever.

In other news, I worked from home today as I had no physical meetings (thank God for Cisco Jabber Video!) so I dressed down a bit.

Chinese Wedding Tea Cermony

Our very close friends, we’ll call them S&C (to protect their privacy), are getting married at the end of April.   As part of their wedding rituals, Frank and I were invited to attend their Chinese Wedding Tea Ceremony.  It was our first time, and what an amazing experience it was.  For those of you who don’t know (I didn’t), a Tea Ceremony is an official ritual to introduce the newlyweds to each other’s family.   Newlyweds kneel in front of their parents (and other family members) to present tea. Those who receive the tea usually give the bride gifts such as jewelry or money wrapped in red envelope.  S&C were showered with gifts which they graciously accepted and wore.  I did some research but was not able to find why they had to put on each piece of gifted jewelry.  I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that it’s out of respect for gift giver and because gold signifies good luck.   (Hope this is right)

Here are some pictures of the ceremony, including before and after shots for S&C.   S looks like he’s ready to battle it out with Mr. T.   Check out all the bling on C, not to mention the matching Cartier watches!!!!  I DIE!  After the ceremony, the guests were treated to an amazing spread of Chinese food, dim sum, lobster, chicken, duck, rice, noodles.  You name it, they had it and it all was DE-LICIOUS!.   As you know , I LOVE food, so this was one of my favorite parts of the day.  All in all, I was so happy and honored to be part of S&C’s special day.  I wish them lots of luck, best wishes and lots of babies!

Cat and I are Peruvian and we don’t have any real “traditional” wedding rituals (that I know of).  Do you have any unique wedding traditions?

Copy Cat – Floral Jeans

We’re very sorry that we have been MIA in the last couple of days.  Cat and I were in San Jose, at our company’s HQ attending a Women In Technology Forum.  We had the opportunity to listen to many of our women executives, so inspiring.  Well, we ended up traveling all day on Monday and spent the entire day in the forum.  We just go in on the red eye…exhausted!

Onto the outfit, I recently picked up this pair of floral pants and couldn’t help myself.  I had to replicate Katie Holmes outfit…..for much less!

Which celebrity looks do you like to replicate?

Wear to the Office – Gingham

I recently stocked up on gingham shirts (yeah I know, where have I been).  This one happens to be one of my favorites.  I don’t know if you can tell, but the checks on the waist get a little smaller in order to create a slimming effect.  I wore this to the office the other day and recieved so many compliments.

Would you wear this to the office?

xoxo,

Di

Trend of the Month – Neon

I’m so excited to participate in Marion’s first Trend of the Month Challenge!  This month’s challenge is Neon…yay!  Since I work in a corporate envronment but still want to wear the latest trends, I always try to figure out a way to wear them to the office and still remain professional.  Some trends never make it, such as cutouts, colored denim or sheer, however I think I can pull neon off.  As I mentioned in Monday’s post,  I worked on these shoes over the weekend  (I forgot I had a bit of Martha Stewart in me) Since they are already pretty loud, I decided to pair them with a black dress to tone the look down.   I would probably skip the necklace during the day, but add it later on for after work cocktails.

What do you think?  Would you wear neon to the office?

Casual in Leopard

I’m in New Haven with my team this week – the home of Yale – for a team meeting. I got up early and went for a run and was greeted by gorgeous architecture.

The rest of the day, we are holed up in a meeting room so I wanted to be comfortable but still professional.  I went with denim trousers, a white blouse and a brown blazer.  I added the turquoise necklace for a pop of color and finally broke in my leopard flats!

Casual Sunday

Cat’s hubby was out of town this weekend, that means I got a ton of sees time!!!  On Friday night we had a sleep over and worked on a super fun DIY project, neon yellow cap toe heels…of course inspired by A Pair and a Spare.  I’m thinking about wearing these for Marion’s “Trend of the Month Challenge”.  Make sure you stop by her blog and join the challenge.  She has GREAT style, is hysterical and super sweet!

On Saturday, Cat and I woke up to a FB message from our cousin telling us that she’s having a last minute party for her little princess turning 3.   Although we were planning to go for a run, we immediately thought the same thing and raced to the Gap to buy her a DVF for Gap outfit!!!  Yay, mission accomplished!  Hmmm…in case you were wondering, no we didn’t go for a run, we walked really fast in the mall to get a workout…ha ha.

We eneded the weekend with a mom and daughter shopping trip to the mall, hence the fitting rooms pictures.  We’re still a bit shy about taking pictures outside…baby steps, baby steps.

Have a great week!

xoxo,

Di

Red, White, and Blue

I love navy and the combination of it with bright colors and neutrals.  I was feeling a little patriotic today and decided to don the adorable striped blazer and statement pants that I scored from Express a few weeks ago.  I debated wearing leopard heels but chickened out before I left my house… I think I still need some time before I can get into mixing prints.  Look for something this summer, I hope to have enough guts by then!

Mixing Paterns

One of the reasons I love blogging is because it has forced to step outside my comfort zone.  I was always a black and (insert color) kinda girl.  Mixing paterns have been in full effect for the past few seasons.  I’m not going to lie, I’m terrified of it!  Today, I decided to give it a try.  Here’s what I came up with.

Tell me, do you mix paterns?  What rules do you follow?

xoxo,

Di
