Outfit for the Perfect Weather

70 degrees and sunny is not weather you’ll find in the northeast right now – where it’s upwards of 90 degrees and intermittently humid and rainy. So, you can imagine how awesome it is to be visiting Vancouver, BC where the weather is nearly perfect. It’s sunny and there’s a light breeze and I’m getting some use out of my cardis and jackets again – I’d forgotten how long I missed them. So, on this day of sightseeing, I definitely layered up with color but since we walked a lot, I wore flats. I like to be comfortable but I don’t normally wear sneakers outside of a gym. How about you, when you’re sightseeing and doing a lot of walking around, do you totally dress down and wear sneakers or do you save those for a workout and opt for cute flats instead? Do any of you brave souls break out heels?

An apology

I feel so lucky to have the most wonderful followers and I feel I need to apologize to you.   As you all know, I’m in technology sales and the last couple of weeks have been a complete nightmare due to our year-end.  I have been doing my best to post on time and reply to all your super sweet comments, but I’ve been failing miserably.    I promise once all this is over (and I close every deal), I will resume to posting on time, replying to all your comments and visiting all my favorite blogs.

In the meantime, please have a little patience with me and I promise I will return to normal soon.

Fringe Skirt

Hello lovely readers, happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great weekend, I sure did.  Spent time with friends, family and my amazing boyfriend.   This is what I wore for my Saturday night date with Frank.  I have to admit, I really didn’t thing I would jump on the fringe trend until I spotted this awesome skirt at Zara a few weeks ago.  It spent about a week in the original shopping bag by my door ready to be returned, but I changed my mind.   I guess you can say, it kinda grew on me.

What do you think, will you be trying out this trend?

Thank God for The Maillot!

As far as I’m concerned, the maillot couldn’t have picked a better time to make a comeback.  Maillot (pronounced my-oh) is just the french word for one-piece bathing suit, but it sounds fancier, no?  Well, either way, it’s still the answer to my pre-summer dilemma.  While we’re still a few good weeks of spin class away from baking on the Jersey shore (or the Long Island shore), M and I are going on a tropical vacation much sooner than that — and sad to say, I’m not beach-ready.  Luckily for me and my post-Easter tummy pooch, maillots are a summer trend this year!  While the one-piece selection is usually scarce, this year there are some fantastic suits in bright colors, eye-catching prints, and wonderful textures at all price points.

Note: When I shop for a swimsuit, 3 things are important to me and I tried to stick to that criteria when I chose these.

  1. It is a fun color or has a great pattern
  2. It properly supports ‘the girls’
  3. It doesn’t cause weird tan lines (I think there’s one exception on this list….)

Here are my faves.  And stay tuned below to see which two I picked up (and one that I didn’t):

I took a trip to Nordy’s recently and picked up the following for my upcoming vacation.

Robin Piccone ‘Penelope’ Crochet Overlay One Piece Swimsuit in white (although it’s only available in black and blush on the Nordy website).  I love the tan-through detail around the torso.  It’s just revealing enough to be sexy but it does a wonderful job of concealing imperfections.

La Blanca ‘Glimmer Girl’ Shirred One Piece Bandeau.  I just fell in love with the fit of this suit.  It’s flattering and vibrant and I can’t wait to wear it on the beach.

While browsing the Bloomie’s website before my shopping trip, I saw this Marc Jacobs Peplum Finch-Printed suit and absolutely fell in love with everything about it.  But alas it wasn’t meant to be.  Because I’m top heavy, the flaps on the top portion didn’t sit right :(.  But it’s completely adorable for someone who’s smaller on top.  I still love it…

So, what’s your favorite type of ‘hide my flaws’ swimsuit?  Do you ever venture away from the two-piece and into one-piece territory?

Wear to the office – Monochromatic look

I was inspired by this post from Marion from Marionberry Style You guys, she has such great style and her Friday posts are hysterical recaps of her life as a school psychologist.  She recently posted this outfit and I immediately started thinking about how I can take this trend to the office.   I decided this look would be office appropriate by using an article of clothing and an accessory.  Here’s what I came up with.

On a side note, I decided to try taking pictures out in my balcony.  I thought it would be a small step towards venturing outside in the real world.  It had just rained the night before and I guess some water accumulated on my neighbor’s balcony upstairs….this is what happened.

Plop!  Water drop on my head! I went back inside.

Casual Sunday

Cat’s hubby was out of town this weekend, that means I got a ton of sees time!!!  On Friday night we had a sleep over and worked on a super fun DIY project, neon yellow cap toe heels…of course inspired by A Pair and a Spare.  I’m thinking about wearing these for Marion’s “Trend of the Month Challenge”.  Make sure you stop by her blog and join the challenge.  She has GREAT style, is hysterical and super sweet!

On Saturday, Cat and I woke up to a FB message from our cousin telling us that she’s having a last minute party for her little princess turning 3.   Although we were planning to go for a run, we immediately thought the same thing and raced to the Gap to buy her a DVF for Gap outfit!!!  Yay, mission accomplished!  Hmmm…in case you were wondering, no we didn’t go for a run, we walked really fast in the mall to get a workout…ha ha.

We eneded the weekend with a mom and daughter shopping trip to the mall, hence the fitting rooms pictures.  We’re still a bit shy about taking pictures outside…baby steps, baby steps.

Have a great week!

The Burbs Does SF – Part 2

If you read yesterday’s post, you know that I spent the weekend in San Francisco with fellow blogger Sabrina of Sabrina and the City. Considering how fantastic Day 1 was, I thought it would be hard to top. But Sabs did not disappoint and we packed day 2 with more amazing activities.

First we walked over to Park Wide Rentals and rented some bikes.

Park Wide RentalsWe rode 17 miles on day 2 and though our legs were sore and our backs were achy, it was worth every pedal stroke.

Approximate Bike Route

The ride started at Laguna and Marina and led us over to the first lookout point for this beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge:

We then rode over the bridge,

Finally we took the ferry back to Fisherman’s Wharf and headed back to Pacific Heights to get ready for our evening at Tony Nik’s. Another incredible day!

The Burbs does SF – Day 1

This weekend I traveled to San Francisco to visit fellow blogger (or as I like to call her, my West Coast Bestie), Sabrina of Sabrina and the City. I can tell you hands down, that there is not another person in SF that loves this city as much as she does. As a result, pal Jessica and I were treated to an unforgettable visit, jam-packed with the very best SF had to offer. Over the next three days, I’ll document our fantastic stay.  Here is a run down of our first Day.

Day 1
Sabs lives in an area of San Fran called Pacific Heights so we started there and walked down Broadway to ogle the multi-million dollar homes. Apparently, the president was in the area a few weeks ago and held a campaign fund raiser in one of these homes — maybe it was at this $38 million one?

After seeing all these fabulous homes, we ended on the Lyon Street Steps where a lot of people come to run up and down the stairs for a workout. It’s also where we saw our first Heart of San Francisco.

Lyon Street Step

After that we walked down to Lombard Street to see the crookedest street in the world.

Lombard Street

We then caught a the cable car from Lombard down to downtown to Union Square (pro tip: if you’re in SF and want to experience the cable car, take it from one of the interior stops as opposed to the end stops in order to avoid the long lines).

In Union Square, we visited the rest of the Hearts and did a little shopping before we headed to our last stop before dinner.

Our last stop, and the most exciting in my opinion, was Alamo Square. Being children of the 80s and growing up with Full House on TGIF, we just had to see the iconic painted ladies on Postcard Row,

and the actual “Full House” house at 1709 Broderick Street about a mile away.

After almost 6 miles of walking, we headed home, showered, and went out to dinner at 620 Jones and then drinks and dancing at Le Colonial. It was a great end to a wonderful first day!

What A Difference A Blazer Makes

Nothing polishes a look off, like a blazer.

Since I came to this realization, I’ve been trying to build up the blazer selection in my closet.  Yesterday, while at one of my favorite stores, Annie Sez, I came across this gorgeous Laundry by Shelli Segal bouclé blazer and was immediately in love.  The retail price was $245, but I was able to scoop it up (after many markdowns) for only $44.98!  Considering that I already put it to use, I think it was a great investment.

Now, the outfit on the left is from this post a few months ago, and today I pretty much took that exact outfit, swapped the opaque tights for textured ones and added the bouclé blazer.  What do you think? Big difference, right?

Blazer: Laundry by Shelli Segal (purchased at Annie Sez)

Note (1): For those of you in the northeast, Annie Sez is a goldmine and you should get to your local one right away. They have designer brands at discount prices and they constantly send out e-mail coupons for significant discounts.  I even spotted some Chanel purses at my local Annie Sez the other day — while still out of my price range, the discount was impressive.  (I’m mentioning this store because of my extreme love for it.  I am not being compensated in any way.)

Note (2): If you enjoy the occasional fashion faux pas — check out the pic below to see mine from today. Haha! I’m so silly.
