I love Saturday afternoons in the city and while its always important to look great, trekking through the city demands comfort – especially in 90 degree weather like this past weekend. So I put together this crisp and clean, white and blue outfit, paired it with some flats, a bold statement necklace and a braided updo. More about the updo coming up.
blouse : zara (old)(similar) | white skinny jeans : michael kors @ annie sez (old)(similar)(similar and affordable): rose gold sandals | jennifer lopez @ kohls | yellow statement necklace : ebay | glasses : dita svelte | gold leaf earrings : annie sez (old)(similar)
Now about the updo. From the front it doesn’t look like much but if you follow us on Facebook or Instagram, you saw this picture of the back of my updo that I posted on Saturday:
The french fishtail seashell braid. I have to admit, this was a feat of engineering that I’m not sure I can replicate. I saw this pin on Pinterest and was immediately inspired. After much searching I finally found two YouTube videos whose instructions I was able to combine to create the look you see above. I essentially replicated this forming technique but with the fishtail braid from this video. Like I said before, I don’t know if I can recreate this but if I get enough interest, I’ll do a tutorial video for it.
In other news, I finally caught the first episode of The Newsroom, and since I’ve mostly been watching ABC Family fodder this summer, this show was definitely a nice change of pace. I haven’t seen the second episode yet but the first was spectacularly written and acted. It’s not as gritty as The Wire, nor as remarkably moving and understated as Mad Men (IMO the best shows of all time — the best, not my favorite), the first episode is very promising. What are you watching this summer?
Oooh, sorry for the late post today, but I have a good excuse. I was at the DVF Sample Sale this morning! (You can find all details on our FB page) . Today, the DVF Sample Sale opened their doors to friends and family. It opens to the public tomorrow, but I was able to get a sneak peak 😉 OK, I can’t even pretend I’m special. I heard somewhere that they won’t turn you away at the door even if you’re not F&F. I decided to take a leap of faith and go. I got to the office early to jump on a conference call and drop of my stuff. At around 8:30 I changed into flats, grabbed a credit card and rushed off to 5th Avenue (need to keep the baggage light!) Luckily, it’s only a few blocks away from my office. I arrived a few minutes later to a line of about 10 women patiently waiting to be let in. We soon found out that only Press was allowed in between 8 and 10AM. Crap, I have a meeting at 11AM! I have a busy week this week, so if not now, I didn’t know when I would be able to come back. I decided to wait. I remembered the weatherman on the news mention some rain this afternoon, well, he was wrong! It came down this morning all over me and the ladies on line. Luckily, the super nice door man had umbrellas for us. How nice is that? Love that DVF has such great people working for her. Ok ok, enough of that. So finally, 10am arrives and I go in. I had to be very strategic because I only had 30 minutes, which meant no trying anything on. My eyes opened up wide as I look at all the lovely bright prints and wrap dresses. I find the row with my size and go in for the kill. There were tons of wrap dresses, resort wear and lots and lots of color! I scored two wrap dresses and a lovely bag. I will be sure to post them on the blog soon, I promise. In the meantime, if you don’t live in nyc, DVF is having their FIRST sample sale ONLINE. Sign up here to get an invite. http://www.dvfsamplesale.com/
Oh yeah, here’s what I wore this weekend, if you’re not rushing off to sign up for the sale already 🙂
Are you planning on attending the DVF SS on 5th Avenue or online?

The girls and I decided to take a last minute trip down the Jersey Shore. Fortunately, we didn’t run into Snookie and her gang. I wanted to be comfortable driving so I threw on cut offs and a t-shirt. I’m not a big hat person, but I just couldn’t resist this adorable fedora I picked up on a recent trip to Target.
Where: Jamesport Vineyards
Watch: Toy Watch
Had a great weekend in Jamesport. One of my friends planned a wine tour and we visited some really fun vineyards. The entire day was so much fun that I ended up losing my cell phone. I was disappointed but at the same time I was able to relax and not think about calls/emails/text. My new phone will arrive tomorrow and all will go back to normal…in the meantime, I will enjoy this little unplanned tech break.
I usually live in dresses and jean shorts all summer. I’m really trying to incorporate more shorts to my wardrobe. As soon as I saw these shorts, I knew they would be a great add to start off this goal.
