I admit, I’m obsessed with neon!

Guilty!  Yes, I’m totally obsessed with Neon.  It all started with a DIY project I did a few months back, neon cap toe shoes.  Then little by little I started adding more and more neon.  As you all know, I LOVE yellow.  So it was only a matter of time that I would fall in love with neon yellow.  And neon pink, need I say more?

I wore this outfit to a Cinco de Mayo party…yeah, nothing Mexican about it, but I had just received these shoes in the mail and I just HAD to wear them.  I knew I had to keep the rest of my outfit low key in order for these puppies to shine!

Tell me, are you embracing this neon trend as much as I am?

30 Things Every Woman Should Have and Should Know By The Time She’s 30

When I was at Barnes and Noble the other day, this book caught my eye:

Being over 30, I was intrigued.  This book is based on the list created by author Pamela Redmond Strathan and was published in Glamour back in 1997 (when I was a measly 17 years old).  The book has notable women elaborate on the list but you’ll find it below in its concise glory.  I’m proud to say that I know or have most of the things on the list, although I still need a little bit of work on a few as well. That said, the reason I like this list is because it’s less about ticking things off a list and more about being empowered, self sufficient, and mature.  But to have some fun, number 3 on the HAVE list caught my eye and got me thinking.

By 30 you should have something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.

What would I wear if the employer of my dreams wants to see me in an hour? What would I wear if the man of my dreams (my dear husband) wanted to whisk me away on a fancy date in an hour? Well, here’s what I came up with.

Employer of My Dreams Outfit:

suit : tahari @ annie sez (similar) | blouse and necklace : banana republic | shoes : michael kors pressley pump | tote : louis vuitton hampstead mm

I’m a huge fan of a classic navy suit.  In this case I would tone it down as much as possible but for a day in the office, it’s easy to pair it with bright colors and jewelry for a trendier look.

Man of My Dreams Outfit

full-skirt belted brocade dress : ellen tracy @ annie sez (similar in blue) | black patent pumps : christian louboutin pigalle plato 120 | white studded clutch : rebecca minkoff mac stud clutch | bracelet : arden b necklace (old)

I just love the silhouette of this dress, it’s super flattering and the shoes help enhance my legs :).

So, what do you think?  Do you have your outfits in your head for these occasions?  Also, read the list below and if you’re 30, let us know — do you feel comfortable that you know and have all the things listed?

The List

By 30, you should have:
1. One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come.
2. A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family.
3. Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.
4. A purse, a suitcase, and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying.
5. A youth you’re content to move beyond.
6. A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age.
7. The realization that you are actually going to have an old age—and some money set aside to help fund it.
8. An email address, a voice mailbox, and a bank account—all of which nobody has access to but you.
9. A résumé that is not even the slightest bit padded.
10. One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry.
11. A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra.
12. Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it.
13. The belief that you deserve it.
14. A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine, and a plan for dealing with those few facets of life that don’t get better after 30.
15. A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship, and all those other facets of life that do get better.

By 30, you should know:
1. How to fall in love without losing yourself.
2. How you feel about having kids.
3. How to quit a job, break up with a man, and confront a friend with-out ruining the friendship.
4. When to try harder and when to walk away.
5. How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next.
6. The names of the secretary of state, your great-grandmothers, and the best tailor in town.
7. How to live alone, even if you don’t like to.
8. Where to go—be it your best friend’s kitchen table or a yoga mat—when your soul needs soothing.
9. That you can’t change the length of your legs, the width of your hips, or the nature of your parents.
10. That your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over.
11. What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love.
12. That nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs, or not flossing for very long.
13. Who you can trust, who you can’t, and why you shouldn’t take it personally.
14. Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.
15. Why they say life begins at 30!

Wedding Guest Attire

As I mentioned on a previous post, Frank and I have 4 weddings this summer.   We attended our first wedding a couple of weeks ago for our friends Simon and Christina (I posted about their Chinese Tea Ceremony here.)  The wedding was held in the beautiful Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.   The timing couldn’t have been more perfect as the cherry blossoms were in full bloom.  The occasional wind gusts created a whirlwind of cherry blossom pedals giving the atmosphere a magical feel.   The bride looked beautiful as the groom waited for her at the altar next to his sister who married them.

Here’s what I wore

Dress: Rebecca Taylor (similar) ; Shoes: Michael Kors (similar); Clutch: Banana Republic; Necklace: Street vendor, Lipstick: MAC Ruby Woo (the best red ever!)

Pink dress

I picked up this dress during Ann Taylor’s recent F&F sale.  Actually, I picked it up the day before the sale when the lovely sales person talked me into getting a credit card…yikes I know.   I don’t generally like to have store credit cards, but I decided to add this one because they often provide special perks for card holders such as F&F a day early.  Score, I got this gorgeous dress.  I decided to wear it the next day, but struggled with what shoes to wear with it.  I finally decided on the black, I know, very safe of me.  I just thought the dress was so bright that I needed to keep everything else neutral.

What do you think?  Which shoes would you have worn?

Wear to the Office – Chambray and Lace

I’ve been on the hunt for a chambray button down top for at least a year. Well, contrary to what this photo may lead you to believe, I still haven’t found one. But the other day while I was at TJ Maxx I found this amazing lace skirt with a coral underlay. I desperately wanted to wear it during one of the warm days last week and I needed a chambray top to pair with it – so I improvised. What you see here is not a shirt, it’s actually a belted dress that I bought several years ago at Annie Sez. I just tucked in the belt loops, added a neutral belt and shoes and went on my merry way. I really love this combo of lace and chambray and can’t wait to add a pair of lace shorts to my wardrobe for non-work attire. What do you think of lace and chambray?

Wear to the Office: Red and Hot Pink

I am a huge fan of all the color trends this season, more than any other season I can remember. Color pairings this season are bold, edgy and courageous – as Diana demonstrated in yesterday’s post. So when I saw this post by the lovely Aga of Aga’s Suitcase, I was immediately inspired. I love the combination of red and hot pink but I knew I had to add a grounding element if I wanted to wear it to work. So, I paired this bright ensemble with a navy blazer and neutral shoes and belt.

What do you think about brights at the office?

Wear to the Office – Bright pants

Bright pants are a bit tricky for the office.  I wouldn’t recommend them for a very strict business environment.  If you’re office is a bit laid back, here are my tips for wearing bright pants.

First, I would stay away from prints.   Stick to a solid color, blue, green or red (I own them all).  Pair them with a tailored blazer.  I picked a dark blue to add some contrast and to tone down the bright green.  I was considering wearing a white or tan blouse, however I found this top in the back of my closet and loved the monochromatic look it created.   Finish the look with a pair of neutral shoes.   I didn’t wear the necklace or bracelet to the office, a bit too much for me.  I added it later in the day for dinner with friends.

Tell me, would you wear bright pants to the office?

Wear to the Office – Stripes

In an effort not to look like the flag (except in the 4th of July), I like to add a pop of color to my red, white and blue ensembles.

Have a great weekend!

Casual in Leopard

I’m in New Haven with my team this week – the home of Yale – for a team meeting. I got up early and went for a run and was greeted by gorgeous architecture.

The rest of the day, we are holed up in a meeting room so I wanted to be comfortable but still professional.  I went with denim trousers, a white blouse and a brown blazer.  I added the turquoise necklace for a pop of color and finally broke in my leopard flats!

Pop of Neon

If you follow us on twitter, you may have seen the makings of this necklace.  It was a little DIY project inspired by Geneva from a Pair and a Spare…she’s so creative, I don’t know how she comes up with this stuff but I’m obsessed.  Here is the finished product!

BTW, I’m in love with my new Cambridge Satchel Bag.  Frank go it for me for Valentine’s Day 🙂
